Romans 1:16
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everone who believes…”
In american culture avoiding things that will offend people has practically become a full time job; everything we say has to be run through some sort of politically correct filter lest we offend someone. This has become a great illness in our lives because we have to beet around the truth and find “softer” ways to say what we mean. This is specifically tragic when it comes to the lives of Christians, and them sharing the Gospel.
The common American approach to the Gospel is to somehow make it less offensive and more appealing to the masses, but we have to realize, the truth isn’t always pretty. At the very core of the Gospel message, we must admit that we are sinners that deserve to be damned and cannot heal ourselves. Yes, the truth hurts, but when we disguise the truth, and lower the intensity of the Gospel, we aren’t helping people, we are assisting their suicide. When we “convert” someone into this kind of “Soft Gospel” we are only setting them up for destruction – anything less than the full Gospel is not the Gospel at all, and any Christianity base on less than this Gospel is not Christianity at all.
So let’s stop worrying about people reactions to the Gospel. Let’s face it, its not comfortable to be told that you deserve to go to Hell, but that is the truth, and accepting it is the only way to freedom. It’s only when we realize that God has every right to condemn us that we realize the beauty of His offer to save us. This is the bold Gospel, and may we never be found ashamed of it, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.
