Luke 1:67-69
And his father Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied saying, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people and has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of His servant David."
When Zachariah blessed the Lord in this passage, he did so because he saw that the redemption of the people of God had begun. For 500 years, God had sent no messages to His people Israel, but finally that silence from Heaven was broken, and the Messiah was right around the corner.
In the same way that Zachariah was enthusiastic about the coming of the Savior, so should we. We (especially because we have the rest of the story) should be able to look at the amazing Christmas story and praise God for His marvelous work.
Just think of it for a moment: God gave up His eternal glory and tranquility to come down into this world we have shattered to bring us out of this shattered world and into that glory and tranquility that He left behind! That is amazing! It's easy to lose awe over this because it's told to us so often, but let us strive hard to be in awe like Zachariah and praise God for raising up for us a mighty Savior who is Christ the Lord. Let us praise God for sending us our Emmanuel; God with us.
